Porsche has
finally readied the updated 911 GT3 R, which builds upon the street-legal 911
GT3 RS. The customer racer is ready for the 2019 season, featuring a
lightweight body construction with aluminum-steel composite. It has a CFRP
hood, roof, fairing, wheel arches, doors, side and tail sections, and rear
ride, and polycarbonate windows.
Porsche says the doors and side windows can be fully
removed, and in the redesigned cockpit, which features realigned controls, the
new 911 GT3 R has a bucket seat with six-point harness and adjustable pedal
box. Carbon fiber Kevlar aluminum construction with energy-absorbing plastic
foam within the driver’s door keeps the person behind the wheel safe in the event
of a crash.
For the first time, the Porsche 911 GT3 R has air
conditioning to keep the driver cool and maintain better concentration and
constant performance on the track.
The 2019 Porsche 911 GT3 R has underwent some
modifications compared to its predecessor. The aerodynamic performance has been
improved and is joined by an increased circumference for the front wheels, from
650 mm to 680 mm. The racer also benefits from a new double
wishbone suspension and improved braking system.
Some of the oily bits are shared with the road-legal
Porsche 911 GT3 RS, including most of the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter
flat-six engine. The rear-mounted water-cooled unit develops 550 PS and channels them to the road via a sequential six-speed gearbox.
The car can be refilled from the left or the right
side, depending on the track’s layout. The safety fuel cell has a 120-liter capacity and will allow the 911 GT3 R to spend less time at the
pits. Pricing for the new racer starts at € 459,000 (US$ 545,731) in Germany,
without tax, and first deliveries will commence in December.
