Hyundai’s recently launched N sub-brand for
performance models currently includes two members: the i30 N and Veloster N.
It’s expansion, is very likely, and it appears that an ‘N’ version of
the Kona is already in discussion, AutoExpress reports, after talking to Albert
Biermann, Hyundai N chief.
Biermann gave instructions to engineers to build a
test mule of the subcompact crossover, with different suspension, steering,
brakes and other components, and the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder
engine from the i30 N. The unit is believed to arrive in the lesser flavor,
with 250 PS, channeled to the front wheels likely through a
six-speed manual transmission.
The
Hyundai Kona N is rumored to arrive before the end of the decade. Besides the
mechanical upgrades over the regular versions of the crossover, it will also
get a more aggressive styling, with larger front and rear bumpers, mean-looking
diffuser, roof-mounted spoiler and other parts.
Hyundai might give the N treatment to the next
generation i20, but before that, it will launch the N Line models. These
will arrive with chassis and styling changes, but less power.
