UM is preparing to introduce the Duty 230 in the
Indian market by this festive season and September is earmarked as the probable
month of launch on the internet. Having made domestic debut at the 2018 Auto
Expo in February, it is squarely aimed at the highly popular Royal Enfield 350
series.
The Classic 350 rival will sit at the base of the
brand’s local fleet and will be priced affordably. The Duty S will be the
entry-level model with a price tag of around Rs. 1.10 lakh while the Duty Ace
will be the more expensive at around Rs. 1.30 lakh (both prices, ex-showroom).
The launch timeline was revealed by CEO of UM Lohia
Two Wheelers, Rajeev Mishra, as September has been reported as the month of its
market entry. Ahead of the Duty 230’s arrival, UM will be adding two more
models to the Renegade range with 279 cc fuel injected liquid cooled engine.
The UM Duty 230, on the other hand, uses a 230 cc
air-cooled engine with 18 bhp peak power. It has a completely different look
when compared to the Renegade series and reminds more of the Royal Enfield
Thunderbird. It features round-shaped headlamps, slim fuel tank, wide
handlebars and lowly positioned rider seat and single-pod instrument cluster.
Other significant features are well-cushioned pillion seat, compact taillight
unit, sporty wheels wrapped in meaty rubber, disc brakes, conventional
suspension units, etc. UM is also gearing up to launch high capacity
motorcycles in India at 450 cc and 650 cc capacities to rival entry-level
Harley-Davidson and Triumph models.
