The 2019 Honda Insight will go on sale shortly and pricing will start at US$ 22,830 in the United States. Costing US$ 645 less than the Toyota Prius, the Insight features a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, a lithium-ion battery and an electronic continuously variable transmission. This setup enables the car to produce a combined output of 151 hp and have an EPA fuel economy rating of up to 55 mpg city, 49 mpg highway and 52 mpg combined.

The entry-level Insight LX comes nicely equipped with LED lighting units and 16-inch alloy wheels. Buyers will also find an automatic climate control system, a push button ignition and an infotainment system with a five-inch display. Other niceties include a six-speaker audio system, a rearview camera and a tilt / telescopic steering column.


The Insight LX comes standard with the Honda Sensing suite of driver assistance systems which include collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, forward collision warning and lane departure warning. Other features include adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, lane keeping assist and traffic sign recognition.

The mid-level Insight EX starts at US$ 24,060 and it adds a passive-entry system, a split folding rear seat with a center armrest and an eight-speaker audio system. Drivers will also find an additional USB port, the Honda LaneWatch system and an 8-inch Display Audio system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.


The range-topping Insight Touring starts at US$ 28,090 features unique styling details including LED fog lights, side mirrors with integrated turn signals and door handles with chrome accents. The model has also 17-inch alloy wheels, rain-sensing wipers and a moonroof.

Moving into the cabin, there’s heated leather power front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. Other additions include an auto-dimming rearview mirror, HomeLink connectivity, GPS navigation and a premium audio system with 10-speakers and a subwoofer.

Sadly, all these features help to lower the fuel economy rating to 51 mpg city, 45 mpg highway and 48 mpg combined.
