Dodge has
officially unveiled the 2019 Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye, which features a
supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 797 hp and of torque.
Described as the “most powerful,
quickest and fastest muscle car,” the Redeye can accelerate from 0-96
km/h in 3.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 326 km/h. Dodge also says
the new Hellcat is the “fastest grand touring production car”, as it can run
the quarter mile in 10.8 seconds at 210 km/h.
The Redeye has been equipped with 25 major component upgrades, just
like the Challenger SRT Demon. These include a larger 2.7-liter supercharger,
strengthened connecting rods and pistons, a high-speed valve train, an upgraded
lubrication system and a special fuel injection system.
The engine is mated to an eight-speed
automatic transmission and the car will be offered with two final drive ratios.
The standard ratio is 2.62:1, but the company will also offer a 3.09:1 ratio
for “enhanced launch capability.”
The Hellcat Redeye will be available in
standard and widebody configurations, and both will come equipped with a new
dual-snorkel hood and “enhanced badging showing a sinister red jewel-like eye
design on the Hellcat that jumps off the Midnight Grey Metallic finish fender
badge”, as per the official release.
If Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye is too
extreme for your tastes, the standard SRT Hellcat returns with an upgraded
engine that produces 717 hp and 888 Nm of torque.
This is a minor increase of 10 hp and 8 Nm of torque.
Besides the upgraded engine, the
Challenger SRT Hellcat will be offered with a new Widebody Package that
features wider fender flares which add 3.5 inches (88 mm) to the overall width
of the vehicle. The car can also be equipped with a new satin black spoiler.
The Hellcat rides on 20-inch low gloss
black lightweight wheels, while 20-inch five-spoke wheels with a brass finish
are optional. Models equipped with the Widebody package feature 20-inch forged
aluminum wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero tires for improved performance.
All 2019 Hellcat models come equipped
with an adaptive damping suspension, Brembo brakes and the launch assist system
that debuted in the Demon. The system uses wheel speed sensors to ensure that
the tires are slipping/sticking. If a hop is detected, the engine control
module momentarily reduces torque in order to maximize traction without the
driver having to lift his foot off the throttle.
Inside, the Hellcats have a
leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, silver contrast stitching and
Houndstooth cloth performance seats. Customers can also order Nappa
leather/Alcantara seats, Laguna leather seats and Laguna leather/Alcantara
seats.
While the Hellcats are the stars of the
Challenger lineup, the R/T Scat Pack is intended to offer buyers the best bang
for their buck. Pricing will start at less than US$ 40,000, and the car will be
powered by a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 developing 485 hp and 643 Nm of torque.
On the styling front, the model features
a “power-bulge” aluminum hood with a dedicated air intake and dual extractors.
Other new additions include Scat Pack Bee badges and a modestly revised
interior with Dark Dub Plate and Liquid Titanium accents.
The 2019 Challenger R/T Scat Pack can be
outfitted with the optional Widebody Package. Besides the wider fender flares,
the package includes an adaptive damping suspension with stiffer front springs,
retuned shock absorbers and larger sway bars. The package also adds a front
splitter and a rear spoiler from the Hellcat.
The 2019 Challenger R/T and GT RWD now
come standard with the Super Track Pak that adds a performance suspension, a
sportier hood and a front splitter. The package also includes bolstered cloth
Houndstooth seats, steering wheel mounted paddle shifters (on automatic models)
and 20-inch Granite Crystal painted wheels.
Both models can also be equipped with
the Performance Handling pack, which adds Brembo brakes, larger sway bars and
wider 20-inch wheels on the GT RWD. The package on the R/T is different, but
includes a retuned suspension with upgraded springs, revised sway bars and
Bilstein shocks.
The R/T can also be ordered with a new
Performance Plus Package, which consists of a limited-slip differential and
20-inch forged alloy wheels equipped with Pirelli P-Zero tires.
The 2019 Dodge Challenger will go into
production this fall, and the first deliveries are slated to occur in the
fourth quarter of the year.
