Aston Martin has unveiled the new DBS
Superleggera. The 2019 DBS Superleggera is the company’s new halo model, a
lightweight super GT dressed with sculpted carbon fiber body panels and an
apparently really angry twin-turbo V12 under the bonnet.
Aston Martin’s 5.2-liter V12 has been
tuned to produce 715 hp and 900 Nm of peak torque. Paired to
it is a rear-mounted ZF eight-speed automatic transmission while the rear axle
features a mechanical limited-slip differential with torque vectoring.
The British brand claims the new DBS
Superleggera is capable of a 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and a 0-161 km/h in 6.4 seconds. As a car “dedicated to delivering an unforgettable
driving experience”, Aston’s flagship also claims class-leading in-gear
acceleration, offering 50-100 mph in fourth gear in 4.2 seconds. Top speed is 339 km/h.
The tuned V12 engine is paired to a new
exhaust strategy with active valves and quad tail pipes for a properly powerful
soundtrack, especially in the more aggressive drive modes. But the new DBS
Superleggera is not a straight-up brute; instead, Aston Martin says it combines
the responses of a supercar with the refinement of a super GT.
The curvy bodywork also employs an
advanced aero agenda, giving the new DBS Superleggera 180 kg of downforce at top
speed. This is the highest figure ever for a series production Aston Martin.
The chassis is an evolution of the
aluminum architecture that debuted with the DB11, featuring forged double
wishbones at the front and a multi-link system at the rear. The suspension gets
the latest-generation adaptive dampers fitted as standard. There are three
driving modes to choose: GT, Sport and Sport Plus.
Pricing for the 2019 Aston Martin DBS
Superleggera kicks off from £ 225,000 in the UK, 274,995 euros in Germany and US$ 304,995 in the USA. First deliveries are expected to begin during the third
quarter of 2018.
