BMW Motorrad India is set to launch the
BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS in India on 18 July. Both bikes share the engine,
chassis, and many features. However, both serve riders for vastly different
purposes. Here are five things to know about the BMW G 310 GS and the G 310 R.
The BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS are
underpinned by a tubular steel frame with a bolted rear sub-frame. That said,
both bikes get different ergonomics with a slightly different steering head
angle and wheelbase. The G 310 R gets a steering head angle of 64.9° and a
wheelbase of 1,374mm. The G 310 GS gets a steering head angle of 63.3°and a
wheelbase of 1,420mm.
The BMW G 310 twins employ a 313 cc,
single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected engine that is good for 34 bhp of
max power at 9500 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 7500 rpm. This engine comes
mated to a 6-speed gearbox. Both bikes run the same engine maps and sprocket
setups.
The BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS feature
41mm front USD forks and a preload adjustable rear mono-shock. However, the
damping parameters and spring ratings are different on both. For instance, the
G 310 R gets suspension travel of 140mm & 130mm (front/rear), while the G
310 GS ADV 180mm of suspension travel on both the ends. The G 310 R features
17-inch wheels on both ends. However, the BMW G 310 GS, being a tour-enduro,
sports 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels.
The BMW G 310 twins will feature an
all-digital digital instrument cluster and LED taillights. Disc brakes anchor
braking duties at both ends with standard ABS, which can be disengaged. The G
310 GS, being an ADV, also gets a rear luggage rack.
BMW Motorrad India is likely to launch
the G 310 twins on 18 July, as the company has sent us an invite for a press
event without revealing the specifics. As for pricing, we expect the company to
price the G 310 R and the G 310 GS at INR 3 lakh and INR 3.5 lakh (both prices
are on the road) respectively.
