Italy’s Carabinieri doesn’t have much on
the Dubai police but they have had an impressive collection of vehicles
including everything from a Lotus Evora S to an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.
The latest model to join the fleet is a
specially modified Jeep Wrangler which was presented to Carabinieri
commander-in-chief Giovanni Nistri by none other than Fiat Chrysler Automobiles
CEO Sergio Marchionne.
Set to patrol the beaches of Romagna,
the Wrangler JK will be performing surveillance work to ensure that tourists
and residents are safe during the busy summer vacation season. Despite its
surveillance role, the Wrangler is bound to draw attention as features a blue
and white Carabinieri livery with red accents.
Besides the eye-catching design, the
Wrangler has been equipped with the Mopar One Pack which includes a 2-inch lift
kit and 17-inch black alloy wheels wrapped in 32-inch all-terrain tires. The
model also has traditional police features including emergency lights, a
machine gun holder, a police radio and a siren.
A 2.8-liter CRD turbodiesel engine
resides under the hood and it likely produces 197 hp and 460 Nm of torque. It is connected to an automatic transmission which
sends power to a four-wheel drive system.
Besides the Wrangler, the handover
ceremony featured an assortment other FCA models used by the Carabinieri. They
included the Alfa Romeo Giulietta and Giulia Quadrifoglio as well as several
Fiat models including the Doblò, Ducato and Panda 4×4. The presentation also
featured the Carabinieri’s first off-roader which was the Fiat Campagnola which
entered service in the 1950s.
