Gunther Werks has just started
production of their seductive Porsche 993 400R at a facility in Southern
California. Based around the 993, either one supplied by the customer or one
found by Gunther Werks, the 400R uses a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine instead
of the 3.6-liter unit used by a typical 993. This new engine delivers an
impressive 400 hp, a considerable 130 hp more than the stock mill.
As impressive as this engine promises to
be, it’s not the most remarkable thing about the company’s 993 400R. What
really sets the vehicle apart from all other 911s of its period is the bespoke
bodywork that’s similar in some regards to the crazy 911s from RWB.
Up front, the sports car benefits from a
new fascia with an enlarged front grille and a pair of voluptuous wheel arches.
Elsewhere, the sides include new skirts and custom wheels while the rear end is
made up of custom fenders and a towering rear wing with incorporated air
intakes to cool the rear-mounted engine.
Gunther Werks will build just 25
conversions, each priced at roughly US$ 525,000, excluding the donor car.
Customers will have a number of options to choose from, including the leather
trimming and stitching throughout the cabin. The company says it will deliver the
first three units by the third quarter of this year.
