Auto Guide uncovered an executive order from the
California Air Resources Board (CARB) signed on August 23 that certifies four
Lamborghini models for 2019. These are the Lamborghini Aventador S Coupe,
Aventador S Roadster, Aventador SVJ Coupe and Aventador SVJ Roadster.
From the moment the Aventador SVJ premiered in the
lead up to Monterey Car Week, a droptop version seemed very likely. After all,
the Italian brand built a Roadster variant of the Aventador SV just a few short
years ago, while a Huracan Performante Spyder is now also available. Lamborghini has said it will
build 900 examples of the Aventador SVJ. It remains to be seen if the SVJ
Roadster will be included in this figure.
Whatever the case may be, we know that the Aventador
SVJ Roadster will be mechanically identical to the hardtop. Consequently, it
will feature a 770 HP, naturally-aspirated 6.5-liter V12 that’s mated to a
seven-speed ISR transmission sending power to all four wheels for a 0-100
km/h sprint time of just 2.8 seconds.
Like the hardtop, the SVJ Roadster will make use of
the Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva system that premiered on the Huracan
Performante, albeit with some changes due to the lack of a fixed roof. Considering Lamborghini waited a
full year to premiere the Huracan Performante Spyder after the Coupe, it seems
probable that the Aventador SVJ Roadster will launch in the latter half of
2019.
