Kinetic Group owned MotoRoyale has confirmed to IAB
that it will launch the Norton Atlas 650 scrambler in India in 2020 after the
bike is introduced in England. Stuart Garner, CEO, Norton Motorcycles, released official renders of
the all-new Norton Atlas 650 scrambler through Twitter in June. The new model
is slated to debut at the Motorcycle Live 2018 at National Exhibition Centre
(NEC) in November 2018. It features a neo-retro design, which is inspired by
the old Norton Atlas.
The Norton Atlas 650 will be the first 650 cc
motorcycle from the British bikemaker since its resurrection. It features a
tear-drop fuel tank, chunky USD front forks, wide handlebar, single-piece seat
and a rear mono-shock unit. A tubular chassis holds the 650 cc parallel-twin
motor.
The new Norton Atlas 650 comes shod with wire-spoke
wheels at both the ends that wrap with knobby off-road tires. The motorcycle
features a circular headlight with a windshield up top, an engine crash guard
and a two-into-one upswept exhaust.
Powering the Norton Atlas 650 will be a
newly-developed 650 cc, parallel-twin cylinder engine with fuel injection and
liquid cooling. The motorcycle is likely to come in two variants - ‘High’ and
‘Low’. While Norton hasn’t announced the engine specifications, reports say
that the motor will develop between 70 bhp to 100 bhp. There will also be a
supercharged version of this engine that will reportedly produce 175 bhp.
Braking power will be provided by twin rotors at the
front along with a single disc at the rear with Brembo callipers. ABS will be
offered as standard. The Norton Atlas 650 will be a global offering. It will
compete with the Harley Davidson Street Rod. It will reportedly carry a price
tag of 10,000 pounds in its home market.
