Mercedes is putting the final touches on the second
generation of the CLA, the company’s compact four-door coupe, with test cars
spotted wearing significant less camouflage than previously. In fact it’s the first time we
get to see in a bit more detail the design of the new CLA which looks like it
shares a lot of ques with its larger sibling, the CLS. Compared to the A-Class
Sedan, the new CLA appears to be longer, both in wheelbase and body, which will
better separate the two models in terms of positioning.
The new generation CLA is expected to offer a more
comfortable interior than its predecessor, with rear passengers getting more
room for their knees and heads. As revealed in a previous scoop, the dashboard
will be shared with the rest of the A-Class lineup, including the very
impressive dual-screen setup and Mercedes’ latest voice-activated assistant.
The CLA will be shortly followed by the CLA Shooting
Brake, which will combine the curvy looks with a longer roofline and the
practicality of a wagon. Just like the regular A-Class models, Mercedes will
offer its compact four-door coupe with front-wheel drive as standard and
all-wheel drive in conjunction with certain powertrains.
The engine range will include both petrol and diesel
engines -at least in Europe-, which will be shared with the rest of the A-Class
range. These will include the new CLA 35 AMG 4Matic, powered by a 301 hp
2.0-liter turbo unit and of course the hotly anticipated CLA 45 AMG which will
reportedly offer over 400 hp.
With the test cars featuring so little camouflage,
it’s natural to assume that Mercedes is going to reveal the new 2019 CLA in the
next two months or so, with reports suggesting a world debut this January.
