Following the E-Class Estate,
All-Terrain, and Coupe, it is now time to see the 2020 E-Class Sedan in public
for the first time. Our photographers spotted a prototype in Germany undergoing
testing alongside a current E-Class Sedan model. What caught our attention was
not so much the front end which features a similar treatment as earlier E-Class
prototypes, but the rear end of the car.
That’s because the model features a set of makeshift
taillights that are clearly a temporary solution until development on the
finished item is done. Interestingly, the sedan is the only body style that was
spotted with these improvised taillights — the wagon and coupe seem to feature
the final production rear lights under the camouflage.
Maybe Mercedes-Benz is looking to
differentiate the E-Class further from the smaller C-Class styling-wise. The
rear bumper and boot lid don’t seem to feature changes over the current model,
but they’re covered by a thin camouflage material either way. As with the other body styles, the sedan’s front end
is hard to decipher because of the heavy camouflage. It’s clear that
the LED headlights feature a new signature and the bumper will gain a more
aggressive design.
The 2020 E-Class Sedan will have the latest onboard
tech as far as infotainment and active safety systems go. Mercedes should bring
some interior tweaks as well, including new materials and trims. As for the powertrains, don’t
expect major updates. Mercedes has already introduced its newest power plants
on the current model, including straight-six gasoline and diesel units.
