India received the Renault Kwid Climber last year,
and the Brazilian market is about to get a similarly designed Renault Kwid
Outsider in the first half of 2019. This model debuted at the Sao Paulo Auto
Show last week.
The Outsider is a step above in ruggedness, but it
is not 'funky' like the Climber variant available in India. It was introduced
first as a concept, at the 2016 Sao Paulo Auto Show. The SUV-inspired styling
is enhanced with black cladding around the fog lamp housing, dual-tone faux
skid plates, black alloy wheels and dual-tone roof bars. The grille loses the
chrome garnish, and there’s an “Outsider” signature on the front doors.
The interior has also received attention. New fabric
seats with details in orange, and orange highlights on the gear knob, air
vents, the frame of the Media Nav infotainment system and on the doors bring an
energetic appeal to the car.
The Brazilian-spec Renault Kwid measures 3,680 mm in
length, 1,579 mm in width and 1,474 mm height. It has a wheelbase of 2,423 mm
and a ground clearance of 180 mm. Under the hood, is a 1.0-litre SCe
three-cylinder flex-fuel engine that produces 66 PS and 92 Nm of torque running on petrol and 70 PS and 96 Nm of
torque running on ethanol. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard.
The Renault Kwid is the leading model in the entry
segment in Brazil. Sales have surpassed 50,000 units this year in the country.
Three grades (of the standard variant) are available to select from, namely
Life, Zen and Intense Pack Connect, with prices starting at R$ 32,490.
