The
all-new Mazda 3 has now made its way to Singapore for the 2019 Singapore Motor
Show. The fourth-generation model being displayed is the sedan body type and is
a left-hand drive unit – this is merely a preview.
The new face you see here is inspired by the Kai
Concept, with styling cues being slim headlamps as well as a larger and more
aggressive grille. Further down, you’ll find a narrow air intake, small fog
lamp enclosures, a “lip” and protrusions in the corners.
The “vortex effect” created by the sculpted sides is
an effect that was previewed by the Vision Coupe, creating linear transitions
in light and shadow. This unit is riding on 18-inch wheels, and being the sedan
version, has chrome trim surrounding the upper section of the side windows –
it’s flipped for the hatchback.
At the back, more signs of the Kai Concept’s
influence is found on the taillights, which feature finer details within the
two circular elements of each cluster. Meanwhile, the boot itself has a slight
lip, with the Mazda logo sandwiched in the middle. Twin exhaust pipes are also
present.
Moving inside, the two-tier interior sees an
8.8-inch infotainment screen at the top, powered by the latest MZD Connect
system. Just below is the switchgear for the climate control system, which is
positioned in line with rectangular air vents. On the centre console is the
gear lever and controls for the infotainment system.
For the driver, there’s a new steering wheel design
and the instrument cluster has been simplified to just three individual
circles, with the one in the middle being a display. Dimension-wise, the sedan
measures 4,662 mm long (+82 mm compared to the third-gen), 1,797 mm wide (+2
mm) and 1,445 mm tall (+5 mm), with a longer wheelbase of 2,725 mm (+25 mm).
