Geely-owned Lynk
& Co is looking to expand its lineup with a new model, although not an
all-new one. We’re talking about a longer version of the 01 SUV launched in
late 2017. A prototype was spotted in Sweden during cold weather testing.
The added length is
behind the C-pillar, which leads us to believe Lynk & Co is testing a
seven-seat version of the 01. The rear overhang is longer than on the standard
model but based on these photos alone we can’t really tell whether the
wheelbase is elongated or not. We tend to believe it’s not, as the rear doors
seem to have the same dimensions.
Looking through the
rear screen one can see two seats placed really close to the tailgate so it
pretty clear we’re dealing with a seven-seat Lynk & Co 01. As you probably
know, the 01 SUV shares the same CMA platform with the Volvo XC40 as both
automakers are owned by China’s Geely Auto. As a result, the powertrain choices
are similar which means the longer 01 should offer the same engines as the
standard model.
Expect a 190 PS 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine mated as standard
to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic transmission and available with
all-wheel drive. There should also be a plug-in hybrid version that combines a
180 PS 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine with a 82 PS electric motor. In the standard Lynk & Co 01, this powertrain offers an
EV driving range of 51 km.
The longer version
of the Lynk & Co 01 is expected to debut later this year and be available
as part of the automaker’s car subscription program.
