During a recent interview at the
New York Auto Show, Hyundai North America chief operating officer Brian Smith
announced that an N Line version of the all-new Sonata is on the cards. If it
looks like this, we would be very happy.
The rendering in question comes from X-Tomi Design
and is based around one of the official press pictures released of the new
Sonata. Adorning the vehicle are a number of aggressive exterior features,
including a new front fascia with tweaked air intakes and an extended splitter
painted red. Additionally, the car has been outfitted with a new hood
incorporating a pair of small air vents to help cool the engine bay.
As we’ve come to expect from Hyundai models wearing
the N badge, the Sonata pictured is fitted with sporty black and silver wheels,
red brake calipers, and a red accent running along the base of the side skirts. Upon announcing that a Sonata N
Line is in the works, Smith said it will have in excess of 275 horsepower. That
figure is identical to what the range-topping variants of the i30 N, i30
Fastback N, and Veloster N offer up meaning the performance-focused Sonata will
probably have the same powertrain.
Before the Sonata N Line launches, customers will
have two engines to enjoy at launch in North America. The first of these is a
1.6-liter turbo with 180 hp while the second is a 2.5-liter with 191 hp.
