A brand new Land Rover Defender is currently in the
works, with several prototypes having been spotted in recent months. Now, we also know when
the British automaker plans on unveiling the off-roader, following a CarAdvice
interview with JLR communications boss Tim Krieger. And it appears that we are
less than 6 months away from a full unveiling, with sales set to commence next
year.
When asked about Australian interest in the
Defender, Krieger commented that this is “one of the few markets that continued
to sell the old Defender right up to the end. So in a sense, the brand name is
probably stronger in Australia because we haven’t had this hiatus like some of
the other markets who haven’t sold it in a number of years.”
Until the camouflage comes off, we’ll undoubtedly
spot more prototypes undergoing tests in the coming months. Back in February,
we even caught a glimpse of the all-new Defender’s interior, which appears to
feature an utilitarian design, mixing plastics with leather.
