China can’t get enough of Skoda SUVs, apparently.
The Czech brand sells four different models in the world’s largest car market
and plans to expand the lineup further. Currently, Chinese customers can
buy the Kamiq, Karoq, Kodiaq, and Kodiaq GT. In the future, they will also be
able to purchase an all-electric crossover based on the Vision iV Concept that
has just had its Asian debut at the Shanghai Auto Show.
At the
ongoing Shanghai show, Skoda released two sketches of yet another concept SUV
called the Vision GT. The new crossover study will debut at the 2019 Shenzhen
Motor Show at the beginning of June. For now, the automaker only says the
Vision GT is “the modern urban car and the new sporty Skoda SUV for China.”
That’s not much but it allows us to learn two or
three things about the upcoming model. First of all, we’re dealing with a
compact or maybe even small crossover. Secondly, it should be a sporty
coupe-SUV model, just like the Kodiaq GT.
Looking at the sketches it’s obvious that the Vision
GT features Skoda’s latest design language. The taillights and 3D grille remind
of the Euro-spec Kamiq and Scala, while the headlights seem somewhat similar to
those of the Chinese-spec Kamiq. Taking all these things into account, we’re
inclined to say the Vision GT Concept previews a Kamiq GT.
