Citroen has confirmed it will launch a
zero-emissions, fully electric version of its large Relay delivery van before
the end of this year. The Relay Electric will be built at a factory in Val di Sangro in
Italy, with the electric conversion carried out by Citroen's partner BD Auto.
Citroen's sister brand Peugeot will also debut an
electric version of its equivalent of the Relay, the Peugeot Boxer. The Citroen Relay Electric will
be offered in the 'L1' and 'L3' bodystyles, with the latter featuring a longer
wheelbase and therefore greater cargo-carrying capacity. Exact payloads have
not been confirmed, however.
Both the Relay Electric and Boxer Electric will go
into competition with the Renault Master Z.E. in the large electric van class,
which is primarily aimed at companies conducting multi-drop last-mile urban
deliveries.
Citroen says that the L1 version of the Relay
Electric will travel 226 km on a charge, and the L3 271 km. However,
these figures were calculated under the now-discontinued NEDC testing process;
figures from the more representative WLTP test have not yet been issued.
An exact launch date and pricing for the Relay
Electric are also yet to be confirmed.
