The 2020 Hyundai
Ioniq family will arrive in UK showrooms starting early next month, but it’s
already available to order, in Hybrid, Plug-In Hybrid and Electric guises. By
combining the 1.6-liter GDi 141 PS engine with an electric
motor and a 1.56 kWh battery, the Ioniq Hybrid is the most affordable of the
range. It’s offered in four trim levels called SE Connect, Premium, 1st Edition
and Premium SE, with pricing starting at £ 22,795 (US$ 27,704 / € 24,717).
Some of the
standard gear in the base Ioniq Hybrid are the 15-inch alloy wheels, LED DRLs,
automatic headlights with high-beam assist, rear parking sensors, reversing
camera and 8-inch infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The
automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, driver
attention alert, eCall and cruise control are standard as well.
Offered in the
Premium and Premium SE trim levels, the Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid will set you back
£ 29,950 (US$ 36,399 / € 32,475). It’s powered by the same ICE used in the Hybrid,
combined with a more powerful electric motor and an 8.9 kWh battery, and has a
maximum zero-emission driving range of 63 km.
Aside from the
added tech, the Ioniq Plug-In Hybrid Premium also boasts more features compared
to the entry-level Hybrid, such as the 16-inch alloy wheels, larger
infotainment system, climate control, heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise
control, auto dimming rearview mirror, keyless entry with push-button start and
others.
the
Ioniq Electric comes in two versions, the Premium and Premium SE, with a
£ 29,450 (US$ 35,792/€ 31,933) starting price after the government grant is
deducted. It packs a 38.3 kWh battery that powers the 136 PS electric motor, which can be charged on 50 kW to 80 percent in less than 1
hour, giving it a range of up to 296 km. In the Premium grade, the
Ioniq Electric has a similar level of equipment to the PHEV, while adding some
more items such as the LED headlights and electric adjustable driver’s seat.
