The Grandland X Hybrid4 is a plug-in hybrid
crossover from Opel/Vauxhall that features all-wheel drive, a 1.6-liter
turbocharged four-pot, a 13.2 kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors
(one on each axle).
Its total system output is an impressive 296 HP, with 197 HP coming straight from the internal combustion engine.
One of the two electric motors (the front axle one) is coupled directly to an
eight-speed transmission, while the second motor is integrated into the
electrically-powered rear axle along with the inverter and differential.
On paper, the Grandland X Hybrid4 can hit 100 km/h in 7 seconds, while its pure electric mode can keep it going for
some 52 km. Meanwhile, the driver can choose between the following
four modes while on the go: Electric, Hybrid, AWD, Sport.
Regenerative braking is also available, increasing
the plug-in hybrid crossover’s range by up to 10%. There’s even a “Regeneration
on Demand” setting, allowing you to drive the vehicle using mostly the
throttle.
As for fuel economy, the automaker claims an average
of 147 mpg U.S. (176.5 mpg UK / 1.6 l / 100km) when using the car in
combination with the battery, while CO2 emissions are rated at 36 g/km. Buyers can opt for 3.3 kW or 6.6
kW on-board chargers, or a 7.4 kW wallbox, the latter being capable of
recharging the German crossover in under two hours.
