Launched in 2017 as a compact SUV exclusively for
the Chinese market, the Baojun 530 has been updated for the 2020 model year. Changes include the updated
grille design, slimmer and longer headlights and new bumper at the front,
whereas the silver trim added at the back and new wheels complete the more
dynamic look.
Inside, the 2020 Baojun 530 features a 10.4-inch
touchscreen display that supports over-the-air updates and can be used to
control different functions, such as the air conditioning, navigation,
infotainment and others. It also supports voice commands, so users need to give
the right command to activate the HVAC, play music, send messages via WeChat
and open or close the sunroof. Other features included are the digital dials, heated
mirrors, tire pressure monitoring system and parking sensors.
At 4,695 mm long, 1,835 mm wide
and 1,750 mm tall, and with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, the SUV
sports a bigger footprint than the outgoing Hyundai Tucson. It can be had with
three different seating configurations: 2+3, 2+2+2 or 2+3+2, with the former
offering 979 mm of space between the first and second rows and a
cargo capacity of up to 1,065 liters.
Power comes from a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine,
which kicks out 147 PS at 5,200 rpm and 250 Nm of
torque between 2,200 and 3,400 rpm that’s hooked up to either a six-speed
manual or a continuously variable transmission (CVT).
The SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture has started taking
orders for the updated 530, whose pricing spans between RMB 77,800 and 99,800 (US$ 10,985-US$ 14,090).
