Morris Commercial has released the first teaser images of their upcoming JE. Drawing inspiration from the Morris J-type van from the 1950’s, the JE is a light commercial vehicle which is billed as a “premium product with sensational styling, excellent functionality and a practical driving range for business and pleasure.”

While the words “commercial van” and “premium product” rarely go together, Morris Commercial isn’t kidding as they confirmed the JE will have a carbon fiber body and a lightweight modular architecture. This promises to make the JE one of the lightest commercial vans on the market.

Little else is known about the model, but the company said it will have a “state-of-the-art” electric powertrain that uses a lithium-ion battery pack. The startup also revealed the JE is not a replica, but rather a “fun, funky and contemporary” reimagining of the J-type. The company went on to say the JE will be “eye-catching” and appealing to businesses who champion the environment and are seeking an eco-friendly delivery vehicle that will turn heads.

A lot of questions remain, but Morris Commercial recently completed an engineering prototype and it will be unveiled this fall. There’s no word on when the production model will be launched, but CEO Dr. Qu Li said the JE has been in development for the past two years and has already “undergone extensive road testing.” He went on to say the company still has a “little way to go to bring the project to full production, but we have the team and the product to make this an enormous success.”
