Maruti Suzuki launched its entry-level micro-SUV,
the S-Presso, in September this year. Now the company is likely planning to
launch a CNG variant of the same, suggests new spy shots published by
GaadiWaadi.
Earlier this year, Maruti Suzuki revealed its plans
on making its entire small-car portfolio CNG equipped. The company is
optimistic about the expansion of its CNG portfolio since the government is
working on significantly increasing the availability of CNG throughout the
nation and CNG is considered as a cleaner fuel in comparison to the regular
gasoline or diesel fuels.
The company calls its CNG vehicles 'S-CNG' vehicles.
Currently, five of its passenger models are already kitted with CNG, namely
Alto, Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR and Ertiga. With the launch of the S-Presso
CNG, the total count will reach to six. Apart from this, its commercial
offerings such as Dzire Tour S, Eeco and Super Carry are also offered with CNG.
The Maruti S-Presso is based on Suzuki's Heartect K
platform with 98% localisation. It is powered by the BS-VI K10B 1.0-litre
naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine which delivers 68
PS at 5,500 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine is offered with
transmission choices of 5-speed manual and 5-speed automated manual. The fuel
economy rating, irrespective of the transmission selected, is 21.7 km/l
(VXI/VXI+)/21.4 km/l (STD/LXI).
