Mercedes
has opened the order books for the AMG GLB 35 4Matic, the faster variant of the
German small SUV until the reveal of the 45 model, in Europe. The new Mercedes-AMG GLB 35 is priced from
54,549 euros (US$ 60,600) in Germany, offering a seven-seat configuration
as an option.
The
taller and boxier sibling of the Mercedes AMG A35 uses the same exact
powertrain, meaning a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 302 HP and 400 Nm of torque. It sends power to AMG’s variable
Performance 4Matic all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed dual-clutch
transmission.
This
renders the small Mercedes SUV capable of a 0-100 km/h in 5.2 seconds,
with the help of a launch control system, and a 250 km/h top speed.
The all-wheel drive system’s torque split ranges from purely front-wheel drive
to an even 50:50 distribution between the axles depending on road conditions.
The
hotter version of the GLB also features model-specific steering knuckles and
transverse control arms at the front, together with its own subframe and wheel
carriers at the rear, for an even more direct steering response and better
lateral dynamics. An AMG-tuned suspension (an adaptive one is offered as an
option), speed-sensitive steering rack and bigger brakes complete the chassis
upgrades.
The
GLB 35 also offers five different driving modes – Slippery, Comfort, Sport,
Sport+ and Individual. The cabin features more supportive sports seats dressed
in partial leather with red stitching, specific AMG displays for the
infotainment and instrument cluster, a flat bottom steering wheel and more.
As
standard, the new Mercedes AMG GLB 35 will come with a set of 19-inch
five-spoke alloy wheels, with the company offering options up to 21 inches in
diameter.
