Skoda
will be expanding its operations in India with a new compact SUV previewed by
the Vision In Concept. Set to
debut at the Auto Expo in New Delhi on February 5 to 12, 2020, the show car is
4,260 mm long, or 122 mm shorter than the Karoq.
The
exterior design hasn’t been revealed yet, but the cockpit has been previewed in
an official sketch. The teaser shows the multi-layer dashboard that echoes the
shape of the front grille in the center, complete with a wide-screen
infotainment system, digital instrument cluster and chrome-plated side air
vents.
Used
extensively throughout the cabin is an orange shade, which can be found on
parts of the dashboard, door panels, center console and center front armrest.
There are a couple of storage spaces in front of the small gear selector and
under it, some more chrome accents on the door panels, front and rear electric
windows and voice control, lane keeping assist and cruise control, as per the
buttons found on the three-spoke steering wheel.
The
Vision In Concept is based on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 platform, which
also underpins the Scala compact hatchback and Kamiq subcompact crossover, as
well as the VW Polo and Seat Ibiza superminis.
The
production version of the concept will launch in India by the end of next year,
according to Skoda’s CEO Bernhard Maier, who added that it will be joined by a
sedan that will share the same underpinnings in early 2021. Moreover,
Volkswagen’s Passenger Cars division will also sell rebadged versions of the
same vehicles in the Asian country.
