Bentley’s Mulliner division has revealed
its take on the Continental GT Convertible as the new luxury flagship of the
range. Making a car like the Bentley Continental GT Convertible more luxurious
might sound a bit hard for some but apparently Mulliner has its way to appeal
to customers looking for that extra attention to detail.
Starting from the outside, the new Bentley
Continental GT Mulliner Convertible distinguishes itself from its ‘lesser’
sibling by its unique double-diamond front grille and matching bespoke side
vents, all finished in either silver or black.
The exterior look is also complimented by
a set of all-new 22-inch 10-spoke painted and polished wheels with floating
center caps to keep the Bentley badge always level with the ground. The new
Double Diamond theme continues throughout the new Bentley, with the cabin
featuring the exclusive Diamond-in-Diamond quilting design that’s featured on
all four seats, the door cards, rear quarters and -for the first time- on the
tonneau cover.
Mulliner says that there are almost
400,000 stitches inside the cabin of their new Conti GT Convertible, with each
carefully aligned diamond containing precisely 712 stitches. The embroidery
process alone took 18 months to develop.
Customers will be able to choose between
eight custom-made three-color combos for the handcrafted interior of the new
Continental GT Mulliner Convertible. The center console features a new diamond
milled technical finish, and is accompanied by a brushed silver Breitling
timepiece. The interior ambience includes seven different themes for the mood
lighting, illuminated Mulliner tread plates, and a range-topping Naim
18-speaker audio system.
The new Bentley Continental GT Mulliner
Convertible will be available with both the V8 and the W12 powertrains; the
latter is fitted with a twin-turbo 6.0-liter engine, giving it a 0-100 km/h in 3.8sec and a 333 km/h top speed. The
twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 model is capable of a 0-100 km/h
in 4.1sec and of a top speed of 318 km/h.
