The Bayon is Hyundai’s upcoming B-segment SUV for Europe and will become available sometime in the first half of this year. Hyundai first began teasing the upcoming subcompact SUV back in November, sending out an image depicting a small part of the rear end and revealing part of the taillight graphics. Now we can see that the entire light cluster is shaped like an arrow and that the two rear units are connected by a thin red line.
We can also see a little bit of the front end, which features a large air intake stretching across the entire fascia, to go with wide and narrow DRLs. The headlights are separated from the DRLs for a split design, just like on the Kona or the Nexo. According to the carmaker, the Bayon has a “clean, high-tech look”, incorporating the brand’s Sensuous Sportiness design identity, “which combines emotional value with innovative design solutions.”
The name Bayon comes from the city of Bayonne in southwest France. Hyundai chose it because this crossover is primarily a European product. The Bayon will slot under the Kona in Hyundai’s European range and will only be available with front-wheel drive. It will also share many components with the i20 hatchback, including the dashboard design and some of the latter’s powertrains.
