Porsche is working on updating the Cayenne (possibly debuting as either a 2022 or 2023MY) and new spy shots give us some hints about what they’re planning for its mid-life cycle refresh. Although the Cayenne’s latest generation might not seem that old, it debuted in 2017, so it’s about time for a few updates. As expected, the test car is wearing camo in the front and read ends. The headlights have foil around them to try to make them look bigger, implying that the new Cayenne’s lights will shrink. Indeed, the trend in the automotive world is for sharper, thinner lighting elements so that makes sense.
At the back, the taillights are very well
concealed. In fact, Porsche went so far as to install external lights over
them. At a glance, it’s hard to tell exactly what will change. Between the
camouflaging and the light, there’s some useful concealing going on here, but
the side profile makes it look like the tailgate might be a little more raked.
That may be the extra lights playing tricks on the eye, though.
What is certain is that the license plate
will be moving down to the bumper from the tailgate. That should give the
lights a little more space on the back and could allow for bolder lettering
across the back of the vehicle, as is so popular these days. The interior
should be updated slightly, too. That could mean a new shifter, similar to the
one on the new 911. Since this is a mid-cycle refresh, we wouldn’t expect any
crazy updates to the powertrains, but mild improvements are certainly a
possibility.
Unfortunately, there are still a lot of
unknowns about the facelifted Cayenne. One of these is when it will be
unveiled, but we’ll be sure to let you know when as soon as we get new info.
