The 2022 Lexus LX 600 has just been announced for the U.S. market in Standard, Premium, Luxury, Ultra Luxury, and F Sport trims. However, in Japan, the luxury automaker has also introduced an off-road-focused variant. The Offroad version ditches the large wheels of the U.S.-spec cars and is instead equipped with smaller 18-inch rims. It is also fitted with a unique set of tires to enhance its ability to tackle tough terrain.
Elsewhere, like the Toyota Land Cruiser GR
Sport, the Offroad is fitted with three locking differentials; by comparison,
the U.S. market models get only a rear Torsen limited-slip differential. Some
more subtle changes have also been made to the LX Offroad. These include black
wheel arches, a dark gray finish across the front spindle grille, and a matte
grey finish for the wheels.
Powering Japan’s Lexus LX 600 Offroad is
the same twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 found in other markets, producing 409
hp and 649 Nm of torque. This gives the luxury SUV an additional 26
hp and 103 Nm over the old 5.7-liter V8 used by the
previous-generation model. Coupled to the new engine is a 10-speed automatic
transmission.
There is no word on if the Offroad will be
added to the LX‘s U.S. range. Lexus has confirmed those models that have been
confirmed for the U.S. market will hit local dealerships in the first quarter
of 2022, with pricing to be announced at a later date.
