Ari Jukka Luomaranta, from Finland, has unveiled a homegrown velomobile powered by electricity that he plans to mass-produce and sell for € 15,000 apiece. The engineer admitted he still had not decided what electric motor to put on his creation, but those interested in buying the vehicle are welcome to make a € 500 deposit and expect to get it delivered in April 2022.
The word ‘kinneri’ was used in Finland in
the 1940s to denote velomobiles as a class of transport. The Kinner obeys
modern carmaking conventions: it comes based on a compound chassis designed for
either three or four wheels and has an aerodynamic body.
Only two people can be seated inside, the
driver and a front seat passenger. The vehicle is 285 cm long, 100 cm wide and
has 220 cm of wheelbase. In agreement with the legislation of Finland, it is
recognized as an electric bicycle. Buyers can choose what compound to make the
chassis from: carbon fiber, glass fiber, or a mysterious ‘environmentally clean
biomaterial.’ Getting in and out of the vehicle is possible via a lightweight
hood cover that can be kicked back. Standard tires are thin and slim for
optimum acceleration, but you can specify general-purpose or off-road tires if
you want to.
Sitting in their leather seat, the driver
controls the car with the help of an aviation-type steering rudder. Options
include a full set of LED lights, glass dome, and side mirrors. You can even
put an electronic anti-theft system inside if you feel it necessary.
