Toyota has presented a special “Nürburgring” package for the compact sedan in Thailand with a handful of styling and suspension upgrades. Now, while a specially prepared Corolla racer won the ADAC Total 24h-Race Nürburgring in the Super Production 3 category for the second year in a row, its production relative in Thailand could very well be either the or one of the slowest Nürburgring-badged models in the world.
Toyota says the design of the Nürburgring trim package was inspired by the racecar, bringing grille and bumper add-ons for a different look. It also includes side skirts, rear bumper extension with a diffuser and decorative inlets, plus a lip spoiler on the trunk. Most importantly, the Nürburgring 24Hours logo proudly sits on the front fenders suggesting that this Corolla is different from the others. That badge alone shaves off a few seconds from a Nurburgring lap run, for sure.
Toyota offers the Nurburgring edition package as an option on both the Corolla Altis Sport that has a naturally aspirated 1.8-liter engine producing 138 hp and the Hybrid version that also has a 1.8-liter gas unit delivering a combined 121 hp. In both cases, power is transmitted to the front axle through a CVT gearbox. Toyota offering a set of lowered sports springs and a throttle control box that’s said to optimize throttle response and acceleration.
The Toyota Corolla Altis Nürburgring model is already offered for sale in Thailand with a price of 964,000 baht (US$ 28,499) for the ICE-powered version and between 939,000-1,099,000 baht (US$ 27,760 – US$ 32,490) for the Hybrid. What is puzzling is that Toyota is already offering the sporty Toyota Corolla GR-Sport in this market, at a similar price of 1,009,000 Baht (US$ 29,830).
