Volkswagen introduced a near-production ID.5 GTX concept at the Munich Motor Show and now spy photographers have snapped the production model undergoing testing on the Nürburgring. Caught virtually undisguised, the performance-oriented crossover coupe has LED headlights that reside above sporty air curtains and a wide central opening with a mesh insert. Moving further back, we can see sizable wheels and a dynamic beltline. The crossover also sports a rakish windscreen that flows into a sloping roof. Other notable highlights include a rear spoiler and slender taillights.

Volkswagen has been tight-lipped about specifications, but has already confirmed the model will have a dual motor all-wheel drive system as well as a “large lithium-ion battery” that allows for a range of up to 497 km on a single charge.

 

While the company is playing coy, the model will likely share its powertrain with the ID.4 GTX. It has a 77 kWh battery pack, which powers a front electric motor that produces 108 hp and 162 Nm of torque as well as a rear motor with 201 hp and 310 Nm of torque. This setup gives the crossover a combined maximum output of 295 hp and allows it to run from 0-100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 180 km/h.

The ID.4 GTX also comes with an adaptive chassis control system, an electronic XDS+ differential lock, and a Vehicle Dynamics Manager similar to the one found in the Golf GTI and Golf R. There are also multiple drive modes known as Eco, Comfort, Sport, Individual and Traction. The ID.5 GTX will arrive at European dealerships next year, so we can expect to learn more in the coming months.
