Fiat’s return to the United States spectacularly crashed and burned, but the company isn’t ready to throw in the towel quite yet. The automaker’s sole remaining product, the 500X, is getting a handful of updates for 2022 and the most notable is the addition of an optional Al-Fresco roof.
It’s a retractable soft top, which allows
for a “truly open-air experience” similar to the ill-fated 500C. Fiat declined
to say how much the Al-Fresco roof will cost, but noted it will be available on
all four trims – Pop, Sport, Trekking and Trekking Plus – and offered with four
different exterior colors.
Additional changes are limited, but the
2022 Fiat 500X gains a new Yacht Club Capri Edition. The model is based on the
Sport trim and features a Blu Venezia exterior with a blue Al-Fresco roof and
exclusive 18-inch alloy wheels. The interior also gets an upgrade thanks to
exclusive woodgrain trim and special ivory leather seats with blue piping. The
model also sports Yacht Club Capri badging and satin accents.
As a refresher, the 500X features a
turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 177 hp and 285 Nm of torque. It’s connected to a nine-speed automatic
transmission, which sends power to a standard all-wheel drive system.
