Honda USA announced today that the Civic Si will hit showrooms with an MSRP of US$ 27,300, excluding a US$ 1,015 destination charge. Optional summer tires will add another US$ 200 to the price. The automaker unveiled the 11th-generation Civic Si late last month and claims it is the best-handling, best-equipped, and most fun-to-drive Civic Si ever. It features a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 200 hp and 260 Nm of torque.
For comparison, Volkswagen announced
yesterday that prices for the 228 hp and 349 Nm Jetta GLI will start at US$ 30,995 (US$ 31,990 w/destination). Both are offered with
a manual transmission, though the Civic Si gets the Type R’s rev-matching
system, which responds in 430 m/s in Sport mode.
The Honda also makes power in a wider rev
range, which the automaker argues makes its performance more accessible than in
the previous Civic Si. Moreover, the engine has a snappier response thanks to
the new flywheel that’s 26 percent lighter than in the outgoing model. Adding
to the performance are stiffer springs and dampers, along with other strategic
enhancements to improve the steering feel. The front sport seats, meanwhile,
offer better shoulder and thigh support. A seven-inch color LCD instrument
display provides the driver with information, while the infotainment sports a
nine-inch HD color touchscreen along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
support.
Along with the price, Honda also announced
the fuel economy ratings for the 2022 Civic Si. According to the EPA, drivers
can expect reasonable consumption of 27 mpg (8.7 lt/100 km) in the city, 37 mpg
(6.3 lt/100 km) on the highway, and 31 mpg (7.6 lt/100 km) combined. The 2022
Civic Si is set to hit showrooms before the end of this year.
