The teaser campaign for the 2023 Subaru Solterra is entering the homestretch as the company has announced plans to introduce the electric crossover at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Set to debut on November 17th, the model will feature “plenty of ground clearance” as well as a standard symmetrical all-wheel drive system. The latter promises to make the crossover “off-road and all-weather capable.”
Subaru went on to describe the Solterra as
“quiet, spacious and comfortably equipped.” The automaker added it’s the “most
technologically advanced Subaru yet.” While the company is playing coy on
specifics, the model looks virtually identical to the Toyota bZ4X and this
isn’t surprising as the two vehicles were jointly developed. As a result, we
can expect the Solterra to ride on the e-TNGA platform and measure 4,690 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall
with a wheelbase that spans 2,850 mm.
On the performance front, we can expect a
71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that powers front and rear electric motors
each producing 107 hp. This should give the model a combined
output of 215 hp and a 0-100 km/h time of 7.7
seconds. More importantly, the Solterra should have a range of approximately 460 km.
When it comes time to charge, owners can
expect an 80% charge in 30 minutes using a 150 kW DC fast charger. The model
may also be offered with a solar roof that can generate the electricity
equivalent of 1,800 km of range annually.
