Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) went mainstream this summer and a number of companies have tried cashing in on their popularity. The latest is Alpine, which has introduced the ‘new’ GTA concept. However, the company’s involvement is limited as they noted the model is the result of the “personal work of Arseny Kostromin, a talented Russian-born designer with a passion for Alpine, who has also worked for Renault.”
While that muddies the waters, Alpine will
sell five versions of the GTA concept as NFTs. Each features a unique livery,
although the Alpine Blue and “tricolour digital glitch pattern” are
particularly noteworthy. Alpine didn’t say much about the car, but we talked to
Kostromin earlier this year when he shared his independent project with us and
he noted the model draws inspiration from the A110 Berlinette. However, it’s
far from retro as the concept features an aggressive front bumper with
prominent air intakes and a carbon fiber splitter. The model has also been
outfitted with aerodynamic side skirts, a ventilated hood and streamlined
bodywork. Those features are joined by an aggressive diffuser, a dual exhaust
system and a massive rear wing.
While the concept will remain a digital
expression, Alpine’s vice president of sales and marketing said “After our
collaboration with Felipe Pantone, we wanted to go further by offering a field
of artistic expression to the designers of Alpine Cars and the Alpine F1 Team,
and show our appreciation for the work of independent designers who love our
brand.” Cédric Journel added, “The result is as good as their talent and the
quality of the NFTs is exceptional.” The concepts will go up for auction on
November 3rd and bidding will end on November 5th.
