BMW India has launched a special edition of their 2-Series Gran Coupe. The 220i Black Shadow will be built at the brand’s Indian plant in Chennai. The India-specific variant will be kept ultra-exclusive, with just 24 units being produced, all of which will be sold via BMW’s Online Shop. However, BMW said that once these cars are spoken for, it will offer the contents of the package for full price as an option on the standard 220i M Sport.
The 220i Black Shadow follows BMW India’s
3-Series Gran Limousine Iconic Edition. It’s also the latest region-specific
special edition from BMW, which has seen some similarly limited offerings for
their Japanese and Australian customers in recent months. Upgrades are mostly
cosmetic, with the high-gloss shadow line package from BMW’s Individual catalog
bringing most of the dark color-themed interior bits. This includes the black
mesh grille, black side mirror caps, and black M Performance trunk lid spoiler.
Other upgrades include 18-inch matte-black
M-Performance wheels which feature self-leveling wheel caps,
while at the rear the 220i also features dual exhaust tips finished in black
chrome, tying the theme together nicely. If you want the full murdered-out
look, then the Black Shadow edition 2-Series Gran Coupe can be had in metallic
Black Sapphire. Or, if you’re a fan of a bit of contrast, you can go for the
non-metallic Alpine White shade.
Mind you, it’s not the first time the
Black Shadow name has been thrown on a special edition 2-Series Gran Coupe,
with Spanish customers getting a similar version, but with 19″ alloys and
enhancements inside the cabin, according to BMW Blog. However, the Spanish trim
package was available for the 218i, 220d, and M235i xDrive, whereas Indian
customers can only get the Black Shadow treatment for the 220i. With no changes
under the hood, the 220i features BMW’s TwinPower Turbo petrol engine with 190
hp and 280 Nm of torque. Mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission, the car
will accelerate to 100 km/h in 7.1 seconds.
The BMW 220i Black Shadow Edition is
priced at INR 43,50,000, which comes to around US$ 58,600 at today’s exchange
rates.
