Californian company Bremach will be importing UAZ Patriot off-roaders from Russia into the North America to sell them under the name of ‘4x4 SUV’ (formerly Taos). In the meantime, customers have already left pre-orders for US$ 3.8 million. Two UAZ Patriot variants debuted at the LA Auto Show last week, including a very basic model and an upmarket SUV equipped with heavy-duty all-terrain tires, robust bumpers, towing eyes, and wheel arch extensions.
Like in its home country, the Bremach 4x4
SUV comes equipped with a 2.7-liter ZMZ Pro engine in the United States, which
is still rated at 150 PS. Stick shift enthusiasts will be
disappointed, however, because the U.S. specification only supports six-speed
automatic.
Bremach did not reveal the number of cars
pre-ordered, just the total amount of preorders in USD. The minimum deposit is
just US$ 100, by the way, and the car itself comes in at US$ 26,405 – a major price
bump over its Russian sticker explained by the logistical expenses. Even at
this price point, the 4x4 SUV is around US$ 2,000 more affordable than the
cheapest Ford Bronco before all options.
Moving forward, Bremach plans to localize
the production of UAZ cars in the USA and launch a V8 variant of the SUV. A
pickup truck based on the same chassis should also come to the market later,
priced at US$ 27,882 or close.
