Chinese company Songsan Motors is focused on motorcycles but lately, they are trying to expand into the automotive sector. At the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show, they brought not one but two electric cars – a retro-styled sedan and a more modern, but equally weird, four-door coupe called SS GT. The Songsan Motors SS GT was originally introduced at the 2021 Shangai Motor Show. While the vehicle exhibited at the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show is still in concept form, the company suggests it is destined for production with an estimated price tag of ¥ 298,000 (US$ 46,669).

Songsang Motors is known for ripping off the design of iconic cars like the Corvette C1 or the VW Bus, however this time they opted for a different styling approach. The SS GT looks much more modern with a curvy bodywork, bloated fenders, twisty shut lines, and aggressive full-width LED lights on both ends.

With a little imagination, the rear end has some hints of the Mercedes-AMG Vision Gran Turismo from 2013, although it somehow looks like the PC crashed while the 3D program was still saving the CAD files, and the end result isn’t that successful. The bright-orange paint job and the chrome wheels are a bit flashy, with the Lamborghini reference continuing at the front scissor doors of the four-door coupe that is 5,000 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, and 1,456 mm tall. Despite the generous footprint, the interior looks cramped. It features leather upholstery on the seats, grey carpets, and a rather basic design for the dashboard that has Songsan Motors lettering in a large white font.

Like all of the previous vehicles from Songsan Motors, the SS GT is based on BYD underpinnings. In fact, under the body hides the platform of the BYD Han electric sedan. However, the company suggests an 800 km electric range thanks to a larger 100 kWh battery pack. The dual electric motors produce a combined 516 hp and 700 Nm of torque, allowing a 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds.

The company hasn’t provided a timeline for the SS GT’s market launch, although the fact that it already has a price tag means it could be close.
