British pricing details have been announced for the 2022 VW T7 Multivan before order books open in January and deliveries start at the end of March 2022. Found at the base of the new Multivan range is the 134 hp 1.5 TSI Life variant, priced from £ 43,160 (US$ 57,501). Among the standard features of the Life model are 16-inch alloy wheels, seven seats, two sliding doors, a digital instrument cluster, and a 10-inch infotainment system.
Prices jump significantly to £ 58,130
(US$ 77,445) for the short-wheelbase Style variant, sold exclusively with a
2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder engine delivering 201 hp. This model adds features
like IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights, a Discover Media navigation system, Park
Assist, electric sliding doors, a tailgate with an easy open feature, and
17-inch alloy wheels.
Topping out the range is the Multivan
Energetic which serves as an exclusive launch edition model. It is equipped
with a hybrid powertrain that combines a 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine
producing 148 hp with a 114 hp electric motor at the front axle and a 13 kWh
battery pack. It delivers a combined 215 hp and can travel 31 miles on electric
power alone. This model starts from £ 59,515 (US$ 79,290) and also includes a
six-speed dual-clutch transmission, 18-inch wheels, a panoramic glass roof, and
a Harmon Kardon premium sound system.
One of the VW Multivan’s rivals could be
the Kia Carnival, but it isn’t sold in the UK. An alternative to the Multivan
is the Mercedes-Benz V-Class which starts from £ 58,130 (US$ 77,445). While the
Mercedes has a higher starting price, it is more highly-specced and in
entry-level form has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine with 163 hp. The
new Multivan is underpinned by the automaker’s MQB platform and serves as a
replacement to the Caravelle in the local market. It comes loaded with
significantly more technology than the Caravelle, including more than 25
different driver assist systems, including a Front Assist area monitoring
system that includes City Emergency Braking, Dynamic Road Sign Display, and a
Lane Assist system.
