Daihatsu announced the lineup for the 2022 Tokyo Auto Salon that includes four concept cars based on the Rocky e-Smart Hybrid SUV and the Atrai Kei van that debuted a few days ago. Starting with the Rocky, Daihatsu is showing the tuning potential of the B-SUV with two different concept cars. The “Premium” is painted in a unique silver paint with blue accents on the roof, intakes, bumpers, and mirror caps, and black alloy wheels. The “Crossfield” is on the adventurous side thanks to the black wheels shod in Toyo A/T tires, the aftermarket roof rack, and the black accents all around the bodywork. The concept also gets yellow fog lights, mudflaps, and increased ground clearance.

The Daihatsu Rocky got an e-Smart Hybrid variant last November, alongside its Toyota Raize sibling. The hybrid system consists of a naturally-aspirated 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine working as a generator for the 4.3 Ah lithium-ion battery, and a 105 hp electric motor driving the front wheels.

The second set of concept cars is based on the Atrai van that got a brand new 11th generation just a few days ago, as the passenger version of the Hijet. The concepts are highlighting the sportiness and the versatility of the kei car. The “Premium” is combining white exterior shade with a black-painted roof. The bodykit includes bumper and side sill extensions, a large grille surround, and a set of alloy wheels shod in low-profile tires. The Atrai Premium is also lowered for a sporty look.

Last but not least, the Atrai Camper is the most interesting of the bunch, being the ideal camping companion. It is based on the Deck Van configuration which means it is actually a pick-up. The highlight is the roof-mounted retractable roof that closes down to a slim orange-painted box with an integrated rack. The concept features a special livery with an orange main shade, black silver, and white graphics. Additionally, it has a LED bar, raised ground clearance, a set of cool-looking alloy wheels shod in off-road tires, skid plates, custom grille, and plastic cladding all around the bodywork.

Daihatsu didn’t announce the specifications of the concept cars but the most fitting configuration for the Atrai Camper would be the electronically controlled 4WD system combined with the 660cc engine producing 63 hp. The Daihatsu concepts will be exhibited at the Tokyo Auto Salon that takes place from January 14 to 16. The automaker will also bring all 11 generations of the Hijet commercial vehicle from the ’60s to date.
