A new Hyundai Grandeur is in the works and it will look quite a lot different than the outgoing model. The South Korean car manufacturer only updated the Grandeur in late 2019, introducing a radical facelift that makes the vehicle stand out from all other current Hyundai models. Fast forward to November 2021 and Hyundai unveiled a head-turning, retro concept of the Grandeur, designed to celebrate the car’s 35th anniversary.
The exterior design of this concept was
heavily based on the original Grandeur but updated with things like LED lights.
A heavily-disguised prototype was recently filmed up close and while it was
disguised in thick body cladding, it appears to take some inspiration from the
concept.
Most notably, it appears as though the
headlights and taillights of the new Grandeur could have pixel-style LEDs, in a
similar vein to the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and other forthcoming Ioniq models. The
main headlamp units appear similar to those of the Staria. The presenter of
this video also points out the prototype’s intriguing black and silver wheels
and the thin side window found behind the C-pillar that clearly takes
inspiration from the original Grandeur.
Unfortunately, most of the prototype’s
interior was covered up but given how different the exterior looks, we suspect
the cabin will also undergo some significant modifications. Hyundai has been
producing the current sixth-generation Grandeur since 2016, meaning we’re
likely looking at a next-generation model, rather than a second mid-cycle facelift.
If this is the case, new underpinnings are expected, as are a raft of different
engine options.
