Porsche has teased the LMDh race car that it will run in the IMSA and FIA World Endurance Championships from 2023. s we can see from these images, the as yet unnamed car will look dramatically different than Porsche’s most recent prototype, the extremely successful 919 Hybrid.
Underpinning the race car is a chassis
from Multimatic. Teased from the back, we can see that the new prototype sports
a prominent LED light bar stretching the width of the rear end. It also
features a towering wing with endplates that have red and orange LED lights as
well as bulging wheel arches and a massive aerodynamic shark fin that runs over
the engine cover.
We can also see the exhausts have been
incorporated into the rear clamshell and that the race car also sports a
prominent roof scoop. The car’s front-end has yet to be previewed. Porsche
hasn’t announced engine details for the race car but like all LMDh racers, it
will be capped at 670 hp.
The German automaker has also announced
the first two drivers for the LMDh project, consisting of 33-year-old Dane
Cameron who won the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Dpi title in 2016
and 2019, and ex-Formula 1 driver Felipe Nasr who has won the IMSA WeatherTech
SportsCar Championship with Whelen Engineering Racing in both 2018 and 2021. On-track
testing of the prototype will start in 2022 before Porsche, who has joined
forces with Penske Racing, starts competing in 2023.
