Wuling attracted quite some attention when it unveiled the Hongguang Mini EV Special Edition at the last year’s Chengdu Auto Show. The odd tri-axle pickup truck was charming in its own goofy show car way and now it looks like it could be more than just a show car.
Design studies hardly ever make it to the
public roads, but this one did – it was spotted being driven next to the
company’s dealership. Witnesses also reported seeing it nearby. It looked like
a modification of the standard Hongguang Mini EV with a longer rear end, a
third axle and a truck bed. Two additional headlamps lent it a more aggressive
appearance, and the 12-inch wheels were put in all-terrain tires. It is another
question why those would be necessary on a low-end vehicle without AWD.
What also remains unexplained is whether
the vehicle spotted was the Chengdu show car repainted from orange into khaki
or a different one. Wuling has not commented on any of these questions so far.
