CES continues and LG has used the event to introduce the Omnipod concept. Billed as an autonomous vehicle that “blurs the distinction between home and car,” the Omnipod can function as a home office, an entertainment center or even a lounge. LG didn’t say much about the concept, but it features a swiveling front seat and a widescreen display that rises from the dashboard. The concept also has a personal assistant and a individual rear seat with a sleep mode. When the latter is activated, the seat reclines and a footrest deploys.
Given that LG is best known for home
electronics, it comes as little surprise the Omnipod features numerous displays
as well as what appears to be a refrigerator and a coffee maker. There’s even a
power-deployable clothing rack, so you can change into something nicer when you
get to your destination. The model also features cinema and fitness modes as
well as what can best be described as a virtual vending machine.
Besides the Omnipod, LG showed a “Soft
V2X” app that helps pedestrians and cyclists share information with nearby
vehicles. Thanks to the sharing of speed and location data, users can be
notified about potential collisions ahead of time.
The company also introduced a digital
cockpit, which is essentially their version of the Mercedes MBUX Hyperscreen.
It’s a full-width display that consists of a digital instrument cluster, an
infotainment system, and a display for the front passenger.
