Electric vehicles are dominating CES and the latest one is an autonomous delivery vehicle from Udelv. Essentially a box on wheels, the Transporter is outfitted with a swappable cargo pod that can hold up to 907 kg of goods in its adjustable shelves. They have been designed to carry “nearly anything from convenience goods, e-commerce packages and groceries to auto parts, electronics, and medical supplies.” The autonomous vehicle drives to a customer’s home or business and then they can use the Udelv app to retrieve their items. Thanks to a series of sliding doors, users will only be able to retrieve their items while the rest of the cargo remains secure.
The Transporter can make up to 80 stops
per trip thanks to its 90 and 160 kWh battery packs, which allow for ranges of 257-483 km. The model is also capable of traveling at speeds up
to 113 km/h, which is notable as it allows the vehicle to drive on the
highway. When the Transporter has finished its route, it can be given up to 354 km of range in 45 minutes using a DC fast charger. That’s pretty
quick and merchants can load the vehicle as it charges.
On the autonomous side of things, the
Transporter is equipped with the Mobileye Drive system that features a “robust
suite” of cameras, LiDARs, and radars. The model also uses Mobileye’s AV maps
and has a camera-based teleoperation system for remote maneuvers and
assistance. Udelv has already received more than 1,000 reservations and plans
to launch the Transporter in 2023. Following the initial roll out, the company
plans to deploy 50,000 Transporters by 2028.
