The BMW X5 M is a great performance SUV, and thanks to a new set of images captured by spy photographers, we now know that its mid-cycle refresh is right around the corner. Most changes come at the front, where we can see a new downturned grille design similar to the ones found on the X6 and 8-Series. The headlights are also now slimmer and feature much straighter lines that the current model’s, and while the lower part of the bumper is too heavily camouflaged to make anything out, we wouldn’t be surprised if it featured tweaked intake designs.
Contrary to the front end, the rear appears to remain
largely the same as the current model. The taillights, bumper design, and
graphics all look to be identical, so if there are any changes, they’re likely
minor. The same can be said about the side profile, which keeps the same
characteristic shoulder line that kinks upward as the rear fender.
Overall, rather than the X3/X4 facelift that arguably made
their designs a bit messier, it looks like the X5 will be going the route of
its 5-Series sedan cousin, which received a notable cleaning-up in its
facelift.
There are no photos of the interior, but in other spy shots
the SUV was seen with a large central display similar to the one in the iX.
Powering the SUV should be the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that makes 591 hp and 750 Nm of torque in the base X5 M, and 617 hp and 750 Nm in the Competition model. The
facelifted BMW X5 is expected to arrive later this year, with the X5 M to
follow shortly after.
