The all-electric version of the Porsche Macan has been spotted testing near the arctic circle. Still wearing a significant amount of tricky camo, the crossover is expected to be unveiled this year. Painted all black, it’s hard to tell where the crossover’s camouflage begins and ends. The lower grille section though is revealing. Although the upper part is clearly fake, the lower appears to have Venetian-blind-like shutters. That would suggest that Porsche is thinking hard about cooling for this performance crossover, something that’s important for lengthening battery power in performance applications.
Modern headlights and a big battery tray at the bottom,
meanwhile, suggest that the Macan will keep familiar traits from the
automaker’s first EV. Rumors suggest, though, that vehicle’s range will be
significantly extended over the Taycan thanks, perhaps in part, to those
shutters.
The sloping roofline and the pronounced shoulders also
suggest high performance. It will be based on the new EV-exclusive PPE
platform, like the Audi Q6 e-tron and the A6 e-tron. The crossover will be
offered with two battery-size options, both of which will feature 800-volt
technology for fast charging. Power is expected to vary from one to the other
but exact figures are not yet known. The flagship Turbo S model, though, will
reportedly be pretty impressive offering as much as 700 horsepower and 750
lb-ft according to some sources.
As mentioned at the top, the electric Porsche Macan is
expected to be unveiled this year, ahead of a late 2022 start for production.
It will be joined by the ICE Macan in Porsche’s lineup for a few years. The
automaker is expected to phase the old-school model out in 2024, though.
